CG-Lock Install in a 2005 Federal Elise

Presented here are the steps I went through to install my CG-Lock in my 2005 Federal Elise. This item does an excellent job of holding you firmly in your seat on the track, or on twisty mountain roads. It also holds your lower back in place against the lumbar support, resulting in less fatigue on long drives. It's a terrific product, and you can pick one up over at Sector 111.

Start by unpacking the CG-Lock kit. Everything you need is included:

The included installation instructions are excellent, and I don't have much to add. For the Lotus seatbelts, you'll want to use the shorter of the two screw lengths provided. I found it easiest to start the short screws, then slide the CG-Lock on to the belt tongue from the side. This is a slight deviation from the supplied instructions, but was much easier for me. The Lotus seat belt tongue has a curve in it that makes you think you need the long screws to get the CG-Lock clamped over the tongue, but once tightened down, they are too long. So remember- start the short screws, and slide the CG-Lock on from the side. The end result looks something like this:

One tip- the CG-Lock is not too heavy for the seatbelt retractor (a possibility warned about in the instructions), but this can cause one problem. When the seatbelt retracts, it's very easy for the CG-Lock to impact the painted door panel just above the padded panel at the back. Be careful, or apply something to protect that area.

That's it! You're done.
